HOWDY! Welcome to 5th Grade! I am so excited for the upcoming year at Oakcrest Intermediate! I am starting my 7th year of teaching. I graduated from Texas A&M University in 2007! Gig 'em! I have taught different grade levels and have really enjoyed the experience of working with children of varying ages! I really believe that 5th grade is a special year for students, and I enjoy watching the growth and progress this year brings.

I have 2 children of my own, Emery and Keaton. I love my fur babies too! We have 2 dogs, Aksel and Leah, as well as a cat named Maggie. I will be sharing many stories this year about my family in my writing in class. My family loves being outdoors and working in the garden, going for walks, and riding bikes.

I love sharing my love for reading with my students! My goal is to share at least 1 book that your child will love and enjoy hearing and reading this year.

Summer Reading

I have saved a few links that offer suggestions for books. I know many students struggle with reading new things, but most of the titles should be available at the public library. I saved the two different links under the links tab on my page.
Have a great summer!

End of Year Party!

Hello there! We are currently experiencing an email with all outgoing messages throughout the district. Please see the link below from Mrs Calvillo regarding sign up for party supplies and treats.
Thank you!

The One and Only Ivan

Hello! I let the students know in class today that they are to read the first 20 pages of the district read aloud between tonight, pages 1-10, and this weekend, pages 11-20. The pages are quite short and I have encouraged them to read this with a sibling or family member. We will be discussing the reading together in class, so please encourage your child to bring their copy of the book with them to class each day. I love this book and the story of Ivan! Please consider reading it with your child, as I am sure that you will enjoy learning about this true story of the "Shopping Mall Gorilla"

We have been working in class this week to research information about our selected topics. I asked for students to research at home this evening, if they were not able to complete the answers to the 3 questions that they were researching about the description of their topic.
*Give examples, facts, data about the topic. Ex: How much money is spent each year on ________? Who invented ______? When was _______ invented?

Response for 11/6-11/10

I shared the goal setting prompt today in class and discussed examples of setting goals for grades and reading. Please talk to your child as they reflect on goals they have for themselves for this 9 weeks in Reading.
Thank you!
